With Breogán Xague
Type: Participatory performance
Serán_123_123 begins with a question: how do we define the contours of a language? When does it cease to be recognisable as such? In Galician music of oral transmission, as in the North of Portugal, there are chants that cannot be translated: abstract particles such as “ailalalá”, “ailele” and other variations whose only meaning lies in their own sound. The proposal isolates several of these “ailalalaes” from field recordings made on the border between Galicia and Portugal, in order to produce, together with the public, a performance based on listening, repeating and adapting.
Breogán Xague is a visual artist, musician and poet who lives between Sweden and Galicia, Spain. His work explores the processes through which a community identifies itself as such, as well as the elements and techniques it uses, with particular emphasis on moments of transformation and fragility. In Stockholm, he presented his work in two solo exhibitions, one at Galleri Mejan and another at Galleri ID:I, and in several group exhibitions, at Mint ABF and Konstakademien, among others. He has also exhibited his works at Fundação Bienal de Cerveira and Fundación DIDAC in Santiago de Compostela, as well as at other institutions.
