Jardins Transversais
With Nelson Ricardo Martins
Type: Urban activation
Jardins Transversais is part of the Convergent Programme of Anozero’26 – Biennial of Coimbra. It constitutes an urban activation within «ANOZERO ÁGORA» and continues Nelson Ricardo Martins’ trajectory in downtown Coimbra through urban actions and projects conceived to make visible territories, bodies and practices often marginalised from institutional circuits.
The project operates as an expanded garden-installation. It proposes a reflection on the relationship between contemporary art, environment, city and spirituality, temporarily transforming an abandoned plot into a space for encounter, contemplation and sensory experience. Inspired by Gordon Matta-Clark’s practice and by the idea of the «cut» as a gesture of revealing the urban invisible, the initiative seeks to activate new forms of coexistence and perception of public space.
Programme of Interventions
Mural Painting (Felipe Barbosa): work centred on the idea of home as a symbolic structure associated with the construction of identities.
Experimental Garden (Samir Bichara): environmental and sensory regeneration device implemented alongside the mural.
Sound Drawing (Nelson Ricardo Martins): composition based on birdsongs from Brazilian fauna, crossing the space as an immersive element.
Performance (António Azenha): performance in dialogue with the soundscape, inspired by the traditional Ivorian dance «Zaouli».
Meditation for Peace (18h00): closing meditative action, open to the public and guided by Lisiane Mutti, in partnership with the Art of Living Foundation. It proposes a collective exercise of pause, awareness and listening.
Location: Terreiro da Erva
