Maria Trabulo

Maria Trabulo

A visual artist and researcher, she works from forgotten or destroyed archives and museological collections. Through installation, photography, sculpture, and video, her projects activate archives as spaces of public memory, restitution, post-conflict preservation, and community encounter. In her practice, she brings together contemporary art and restoration and conservation methods, collaborating with museums to recover the memory of their lost collections. Her work examines how heritage is preserved, destroyed, or reconstructed in contexts of conflict and political rupture – and how these processes shape historical narratives and collective memory. She studied at the Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP). She is currently a PhD candidate at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. She develops a multidisciplinary practice, with exhibitions in internationally recognized museums, galleries, and independent spaces, and takes part in international artist residencies. Her work has been recognized with major international awards and grants.
