With Lilian Maus

Type: Creative Lab

In this theoretical and practical lab, materials from Art History archives will be presented that question the hegemonic discourses of art criticism, as well as case studies of criticism and creation by Afro-descendant women and Indigenous artists. Practical exercises inspired by the Atlas Mnemosyne of the German historian Aby Warburg will also be carried out.

Lilian Maus is a visual artist and professor at the Department of Visual Arts and the PPGAV at the UFRGS Institute of Arts (Porto Alegre, Brazil), where she coordinates the Extension Programme Histories and Artistic Practices. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Colégio das Artes of the University of Coimbra. She was manager of the independent art space Atelier Subterrânea (Porto Alegre) between 2006 and 2015. For twenty years, she has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She has taken part in exhibitions, residencies, courses and conferences in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay, Japan, Portugal, Germany, Norway, England, Russia, Spain, Colombia and Argentina.
