The Porto-based band Sereias is part of the opening programme of Anozero’26, Biennial of Coimbra, with a performance scheduled for Saturday, 11 April, at 10:30 pm, at the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova, במסגרת a programming partnership with JACC, Jazz ao Centro Clube/Salão Brazil. Admission is free.

Describing themselves, in their own words, as “an encounter of the kinetic with the dead landscape in a savagery of jazz-punk-post-aquatic”, Sereias bring to the biennial an intense, hybrid and undisciplined sonic proposition, in which music and critical thought are intertwined.

The concert departs from the group’s most recent work, A Odisseia de Carlos Bizarro, an album constructed as a crossing between collapse and possibility. Through a sonic narrative marked by allegory and social critique, the band explores a liminal territory, between the human and the non-human, the real and the fable.

In this new chapter, Sereias deepen a language of their own within the field of experimental and interventionist rock, continuing the path begun with O País a Arder (2018) and consolidated with Sereias (2022). Their gaze now shifts towards a dystopian condition already in place, marked by precarity, disillusionment and the normalisation of collapse.

Inspired by the wandering figure of Carlos Bizarro, a kind of contemporary anti-hero, the concert proposes an experience that confronts the audience with the social, political and emotional tensions of the present. As in mythology, where the song of the sirens revealed uncomfortable truths, listening here also entails risk.

More than a concert, the performance asserts itself as a political-poetic gesture, summoning the audience into a space of attention and deviation from the automatism of everyday life.

The opening party of Anozero’26 continues into the night with a DJ set by Tracy Vandal and an after-party, in a moment of celebration that brings together music, contemporary art and collective encounter.
