With Tales Frey
Type: Performance
The work investigates the relationship between identity, desire and otherness through the encounter of the body with its own image. By kissing their reflections in a two-way mirror, two performers, a cis man and a trans woman, place pressure on the limits between self and other, presence and projection. The repeated and prolonged gesture reveals layers of affection, narcissism, estrangement and wear, transforming the space into a field of sensitive and symbolic friction.
Tales Frey is a transdisciplinary artist represented by Galeria Verve, in São Paulo, and by Shame Gallery, in Brussels. He is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Humanistic Studies of the University of Minho, in Portugal, where he is also a lecturer and assistant researcher. His work is included in public and private collections, among them: Akureyri Art Museum, Iceland; Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves and Museu Bienal de Cerveira, Portugal; MUNTREF, Argentina; Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, Museu de Arte de Goiânia, and Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil.
