Bálsamo
30 May
With Gil Maia
Type: Exhibition
In Bálsamo, “Art exists so that reality does not destroy us”: Nietzsche underlines the importance of art in human existence and even argues that this existence should be regarded as if it were a work of art. Embracing this concept, the artist set out to encounter diverse works of art, which sparked aesthetic interest for the compositions of this new painting collection. These are not interpretations, but starting points for new challenges and for the tributes they call for. The moment is more than opportune, since uncertainty, brutality and dystopia have once again settled in to unsettle and distress us. But as a counterpoint, and in line with the philosopher, art shelters us, delivers us to utopia, illusion and the encounter with our transcendence. It allows us to escape, even if only momentarily, from the excess of reality and from suffering, so that in this refuge we may feel the reverse of hatred, the pleasure of being, the pleasure of giving to others. And so that, as creators, we may access our vital force and our greatest authenticity. Art does not save us, but it is a place of appeasement and an eternal balm.
